STAINLESS STEEL GUTTERING FAQs

How long does stainless steel guttering last?

With correct installation and normal environmental exposure, Grade 304 stainless steel guttering can last 80 years or more. It’s tough, non-reactive and resists weathering exceptionally well.

Does it need painting or coating?

No. Stainless steel doesn’t require any surface coating or painting. Its smooth, natural finish maintains its clean appearance for decades with only minimal cleaning.

Is Grade 304 suitable for coastal areas?

Grade 304 performs well in most inland and urban environments. For coastal or high-saline areas, we usually recommend upgrading to Grade 316 stainless steel, which offers enhanced resistance to salt corrosion.

Is stainless steel guttering easy to maintain?

Yes. It only needs a light clean occasionally to remove dirt or debris. Unlike painted metal or plastic systems, it will not fade, crack or flake.

Will stainless steel change colour over time?

No significant colour change occurs. It may develop a slightly softer, more matte finish with age, but it will not patinate or discolour like copper. Its look remains crisp and contemporary.

Is stainless steel recyclable?

Yes. Stainless steel is fully recyclable with no loss of quality. It’s a sustainable choice for anyone looking to reduce environmental impact while investing in long-lasting materials.

Can stainless steel guttering be used on heritage properties?

Definitely. While stainless steel has a modern appearance, its understated finish blends well with both contemporary and traditional buildings. It’s often chosen for restorations where longevity is a key factor.

How does stainless steel compare to copper?

Both are premium, long-lasting materials. Copper develops a natural patina and changes colour over time, while stainless steel maintains a consistent modern look. Copper suits heritage character, stainless steel suits crisp, architectural design.

Is it made in the UK?

Yes. Our stainless steel guttering systems are precision manufactured here in Britain to the same exacting standards as our copper range, ensuring exceptional quality and fit.
